Module 1: What Success Means to You
In this first module, you’ll seek God’s heart for what success truly means. Instead of letting the world, culture, or even other business leaders define it for you, you’ll root your understanding in God’s Word. You’ll also uncover the limiting beliefs and spiritual strongholds that have been holding you back from stepping fully into the calling God has for you; and discover how to replace them with Kingdom truths that bring freedom and breakthrough.
What is “Success” in the Kingdom?
In the world, success often means more money, more power, or more recognition. But God calls us to a higher standard: true success is being faithful to His assignment for our lives and stewarding what He has given us well.
Joshua 1:8 (NKJV) – This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Defining success God’s way keeps you from chasing after others’ expectations and frees you from the trap of comparison.
Your Kingdom Success Statement
It’s not always easy to answer the question: “What does Kingdom success mean to me?” But you’ve already had moments of victory where God’s hand was evident: that first client who said “yes,” that breakthrough idea that came after prayer, that testimony from a client who was blessed by your service.
Reflect on those moments. How did you see God’s faithfulness? How did it impact your life, your faith, and your business?
Once you have clarity, write your Kingdom Success Statement. This should reflect not just your goals but how those goals bring glory to God and serve His purposes.
Begin with:
“Kingdom success for me means…”
Examples
“Kingdom success for me means building a business that funds Kingdom projects, serves my clients with excellence, and gives me time to disciple my family.”
“Kingdom success for me means creating work that advances God’s Kingdom, equips others, and leads people closer to Christ.”
“Kingdom success for me means trusting God with my results, staying obedient to His leading, and using my business as a platform for impact.”
Here’s a template you can use to create your personalised statement:
“Kingdom success for me means [specific assignment or goal God has put on your heart] that [how it advances His Kingdom and impacts others], while [how it aligns with your faith and lifestyle].”
Use Visualisation for Clarity
If you struggle to see yourself as “successful” by God’s definition, use this prayerful visualization to renew your mind:
Find a Quiet Place. Sit comfortably. Invite the Holy Spirit to speak to you.
Release the Old Lies. Picture every past disappointment, every label the world gave you, every limiting belief; placing them at the foot of the Cross.
Let God’s Light In. Imagine the light of Christ surrounding you, filling you with peace, clarity, and purpose.
See the New You. Picture yourself walking boldly into the business God designed you to build — confident, Spirit-led, and fruitful.
Thank God. As you visualize, thank Him for where He’s taking you, and declare: “Lord, I receive Your vision for my life and business.”
Write any impressions or scriptures that come to mind. Update your success statement to reflect what God is showing you.
How You Hold Yourself Back
Sometimes what stops you is not a lack of skill but unrenewed thinking.
Romans 12:2 (NKJV) – Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Negative patterns — fear, pride, striving, isolation — can sabotage your progress. Once you bring them to light, God can heal and replace them with His truth.
Example
You may have been taught to “do everything yourself” and not burden others. This belief keeps you from asking for help, even when God has placed people in your life to support you. It reinforces a cycle of burnout and frustration — the very opposite of God’s rest and provision.
Breaking this pattern starts with repentance and receiving God’s grace to operate in partnership with Him and with others.
Imagine what a curse about this negative mental pattern is for a small business owner who will continue struggling alone, become increasingly stressed, and be headed for burnout.
Self-Perpetuating Loops – Renewing Your Mind in Christ
As Christian business leaders, we are called to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:5 (NKJV) – Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
But if we don’t examine our thinking, we can unknowingly get stuck in mental loops that keep us from walking in the fullness of what God has called us to.
These loops are often driven by fear, past disappointments, or a belief that we are on our own. The enemy uses them to keep us in bondage, sabotaging both our faith and our business results.
Example of a Causal Loop
“I’m terrible at marketing” → I launch a campaign without confidence → I get poor results → “See? I am terrible at marketing.”
This is a closed loop of defeat that keeps replaying in the mind. Each cycle strengthens the lie and makes it harder to step out in faith.
Instead of taking bold, Spirit-led action, the person withdraws, does less marketing, and sees even fewer results — which reinforces the same negative belief. The business stalls, not because God hasn’t blessed it, but because the owner’s thinking is out of alignment with truth.
Break the Loop with Kingdom Truth
Replace self-defeating loops with Kingdom truth. Romans 12:2 reminds us:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Instead of:
“I’m terrible at marketing.”
Declare:
“God gives me wisdom and creativity to steward my business well. I am learning and growing every day.”
When you bring these hidden thoughts into the light and submit them to God, He renews your mind and empowers you to move forward. Your business stops being run from a place of fear and starts operating from a place of faith and purpose.
Remember:
Seek God’s definition of “success” first.
Visualize with the Holy Spirit to receive clarity and courage.
Unearth hidden lies and replace them with God’s truth.
Action Steps:
Reflect & Journal: Write about a time you saw God’s faithfulness in your life or business. Include what you saw, heard, and felt in that moment.
Create Your Kingdom Success Statement: Start with “Kingdom success for me means…”
Complete the Causal Loop Exercise: Identify one thought pattern that keeps you from God’s best and write a faith-filled declaration to replace it.
